The COVID-19 Pandemic brought life insurance to the forefront of more consumer's minds, according to a ValuePenguin survey. More than half (55%) of consumers said they talked to their loved ones about coverage during the past year while 13% researched life insurance options for the first time. Meanwhile 1 in 10 consumers made their first life insurance purchase .
Nearly one-quarter (24%) of Generation Z purchased their first life insurance policy during the pandemic, as did 17% of millennials.
However, the survey showed the reluctance to buy life insurance still remains. For example 48% of those who have employer sponsored life insurance have no plans to supplement their policy. Nearly 3 in 10 (28%) avoid thinking about life insurance because it's too depressing and only 40% said the benefits of life insurance are very clear.
